With so many choices available when it comes to clothing, shopping for sustainable fashion can be difficult and overwhelming at times. One of the best ways to ensure that you’re getting ethical products is to look for sustainable fabrics, especially fabric that is certified - GOTS certified and OEKO-TEX certified. Some of our favorite sustainable fabrics include organic cotton, TENCEL™️ Lyocell, and TENCEL™️ Modal. These fabrics all have one thing in common: they were made in an environmentally conscious way. Let’s take a closer look at each fabric and what makes them so great!

What are sustainable fabrics?

There are a few things that make a fabric sustainable. The first is that it is made from sustainable materials. This means that the fabric is made from materials that can be replenished naturally, like organic cotton or bamboo. The second is that the fabric is produced in a way that has minimal impact on the environment. For example, TENCEL™ lyocell is made in a closed-loop system, meaning all of the chemicals used in production are reused instead of being released into the environment. Finally, sustainable fabrics are biodegradable, so when clothing items made with these fabrics are thrown away, they will naturally break down over time.

A Glossary of Sustainable Fabrics

GOTS Certified Organic Cotton:

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is considered the gold standard in organic cotton. The standard ensures that the organic cotton is produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. GOTS certified fabrics are free of harmful chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin. The sweatshirts, sweatpants, and joggers are made with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton.

Discover Sustainable Fabrics: Read the Label

The next time you're out shopping, take a closer look at the labels on the clothing. You might be surprised to find that many sustainable fabrics are actually quite common. TENCEL is a type of lyocell fabric made from wood pulp. It's derived from wood cellulose fibers and has an advantage over cotton because it doesn't require pesticides or fertilizers to grow or produce. GOTS certified organic cotton, TENCEL lyocell, and TENCEL modal are all sustainable fabrics worth looking for when making mindful purchases.

The future of conscious clothing

With an increased awareness of the importance of sustainability, many fashion designers are beginning to use sustainable fabrics in their garments. GOTS certified organic cotton, TENCEL™ lyocell, and TENCEL™ modal are all sustainable fabrics that are becoming more popular in the fashion industry. These fabrics are produced using less water and energy than traditional fabrics, and they have a lower impact on the environment. When shopping for conscious fashion, look for garments made from sustainable fabrics.
